The Beginning

The interest with art stemmed from my secondary art teacher Kathlyn Phillips who noticed my ability to draw and positively encouraged me to develop my skills. Ever since then I have been fascinated with mark making and how multiple marks can conjure up an image as if by magic like a magician drawing a rabbit out of a hat. These possibilities are still what inspires me to continue making marks, where a destination will never be reached but a journey packed with wonder.

The Middle

Within my growing years I studied on the Masters course at the University of Derby practicing Fine Art. Here my interest took an undesirable course where my focus became based on hypothetical body ideals found within the media. However after years of being consumed by this topic I realised that whether society accepts me or not, it has no personal relevance or impact. As we surround ourselves with those who love us for who we are not what we look like.

In my recent work I have positively returned to my roots where I create my own magic as creative things to draw come in all shapes and sizes. My mission is to find out how many white rabbits are nestling in that hat!
